The Gulf Oil Spill: Obama's Katrina

By Greg Quinn

I remember back 5 years ago. Hurricane Katrina was one of the worst disasters in North America. The destruction was horrible, lives were lost, billions of dollars of property were destroyed, chaos ran supreme, and the Gulf regions of Mississippi and Louisiana became forefront in the eyes and hearts of folks around the globe. I was in southern Mississippi and New Orleans just two weeks ago, and still, 5 years later, there remains much destruction.

I also remember that President Bush was attacked for his slow response to Katrina. I remember that FEMA was criticized for their incompetence in the aftermath of the hurricane that impacted so many lives. People were angry. Mob scenes filled the news. People protested Bush and FEMA. The backlash politically was tremendous.

Fast forward to the last week of April, 2010. An oil spill by a British Petroleum oil rig will provide a similar disaster to much of the same Gulf region. Some say this could be a worse disaster than Katrina. The impact short-term doesn't seem as bad, but the long term implications could be devastating.

So, where's Barack Obama?

President Bush was criticized for a slow response to Katrina. Obama is moving more slowly, but no criticism? Where are the angry mobs? Where is the news media? Where are the environmentalists? Where is FEMA? Why aren't people calling Washington over the coals for their inactivity?

Could it be because Obama is the top recipient of British Petroleum money? Review this article: http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0510/36783.html
.

Or, is it because the mainstream media doesn't want to do anything to criticize or embarrass President Obama? Or, is it because Obama is held to a different standard of performance (or lack thereof) than any other President in my lifetime?

I'm asking the questions you will not see on your nightly news or local newspaper. Michael Savage (www.michaelsavage. com) asks the same questions. Other conservative talk radio personalities ask the same questions.

With our Federal government going to hell in a handbasket, it's difficult to find just one event of the day to bring into the light. The Obama healthcare plan is a racket. Our Federal government is not being successful in the war on terror (an example is what recently happened in NYC). Many in Congress plan to provide freedom to illegal aliens. Obama is spending more money than all other Presidents in the history of America.... combined! Our children and grandchildren will be held hostage to repay a debt that went to Obama's special interests, bank bailouts, and Congress' pet projects. Yet, where is the criticism? Obama's regime has a plan to take our guns. Our freedoms are mere votes away. America started down the road of a dictatorship with the last presidential election. Most in Congress just go along with this lunacy. Why isn't more Americans taking a stand?

The Tea Party movement is doing something. If you are not involved, perhaps you should be. I recall only once before in the history of America that the threat of dictatorship was so great that Americans held a revolution: the original Tea Party. If it is happening again, shouldn't that say something to our political leaders, our media, and our President?

So, it should be no surprise that another disaster has hit the Gulf region of America, yet Obama is held to a different standard. He is not required to perform. After all, how could he criticize a company that provided him so much money over the years?

Something to think about, huh?
