Are You Willing to Put Your Health In The Hands of Our Government?
By Greg Quinn March 3, 2010 I believe that today is the day the Democrats and Obama will try to ram through their healthcare bill. The Healthcare Summit accomplished nothing. The Democrats have added to their bill a few items developed by Republicans and are presenting it for a vote. However, the Republicans are not going along with it, not necessarily because of partisanship, but because they understand that the citizens of America do not support such a measure. I heard commentators this morning use such phrases as, “putting cow manure on a stick doesn’t constitute a lollypop”, “racing stripes on a school bus doesn’t make it a Ferrari”, and of course the old standby, “lipstick on a pig”. However stated, at least the Republicans get it that America doesn’t need or want this kind of healthcare reform, and they cannot go along with the plan as it current sits. So, here we are. Obama’s Healthcare Summit was as much of a joke as the implementation of most every other plan or policy he has attempted to engage since he took over the highest-ranking office in our nation. He did not receive the desired Republican support. So, instead of stepping back and starting over, the Obama plan is to take what they currently have, make a few minor changes, and push it through anyway. Without Republican support. And, more importantly, without the support of the citizens of America. Many things Obama and his Congress have done thus far have resulted in very poor outcomes for Americans. He has gotten us further in debt than any US President. The national debt is so high that there is little hope to become free of this burden in our lifetimes, or the lifetimes even of our children and grandchildren. His promised jobs are nonexistent. There has been no addition of jobs, only more unemployment. He bailed out banks if they would lend money, yet they used this money for more executive bonuses and continued to dry up credit. The Federal funds to the states have not come through; there sits somewhere in Washington coffers of money allocated for distribution but these funds haven’t yet been sent to the recipients. The financial bail-outs were a joke. The car company bail-outs took your and my tax money to give to corporations who couldn’t manage effectively their operations, and the Government took control of some (such as GM, which now stands for “Government Motors”). Obama continues to support Federally-funded abortions. Obama doesn’t seem to listen to the “other side”, as there seems to be no mediation between the Democrats and Republicans in his administration. Obama appointed Czars outside of the regular Cabinet process. Our nation under Obama’s leadership is being considered weak by other nations, and this hasn’t happened since the Carter administration. Obama doesn’t get all the blame, however. Our current Congress seems to be incompetent. Both Democrats and Republicans have proven incapable of implementing policies that would help move America out of our current state of affairs. And, speaking of affairs, our current Congress is rampant with sexual affairs and other matters to discredit the office and prove their lack of personal integrity. Never in my lifetime have I witnessed such a dysfunctional group of politicians. Never in my lifetime, due to the incompetence of our government leaders, am I less proud of our elected officials. Yes, there are bright spots. There are some very good leaders in Washington, but unfortunately they are too few in number and sit on the other side of the aisle from Obama’s majority team. Alas, as good as some of our conservative Senators and Representatives are, they cannot establish victory against the Obama-led Congress. So, either nothing gets done, or what is done is such a compromise that it remains in the category of more bad decisions for Americans. That brings us back to the healthcare issue. It looks like the Democrats will force through their healthcare agenda without any (make that zero) Republican support. This Healthcare Bill is bad for America. It limits healthcare choices, it limits the doctor’s ability to make healthcare decisions, it will cost Americans more money for healthcare, it invades personal privacy, it implements fines to those who chose to opt-out, it will cost our businesses too much money which will result in layoffs and less jobs, it is not endorsed by physicians, and it will end up costing tax-paying Americans more money while those that do not pay taxes continue to get a free ride at our expense. The plan will provide healthcare for those who are in the country illegally, again at the expense of the taxpayer. The plan will lower the quality of healthcare in America. Seniors will suffer, as part of the initiative calls for cutting Medicare spending. While most of us agree that we need healthcare reform in America, we don’t need it like this! Like Obama’s other “changes”, this is a change we simply do not need and cannot afford. So, back to the original question. Are you willing to put your health in the hands of our government? The government has done such a great job with Medicare; it is a broken system that will run out of money before most of us see a benefit, due to government mismanagement. The government has done a great job with the “houses for everyone” project over the past 5+ years that resulted in the biggest economic meltdown since the Great Depression. Doesn’t the stability of Fannie Mae and Freddy Mac make you feel very comfortable that the government can manage my and your healthcare? The government has instituted a great plan for job creation, or hasn’t it? Promised were made, but not delivered. Why do we expect the Democratic healthcare bill to be any different. The government has done a fantastic job with healthcare already; aren’t the Veterans Hospitals the epitome of quality healthcare? Congress who is imposing this program on us will not even live by the program; they have their own proprietary healthcare system. So, it is easy for them to continue to put burdens on us because they themselves are not affected. Honestly, I look at every program that the government has been involved with managing, from education to bailouts to Veterans Hospitals to Medicare and beyond, and I do not see one single program that is a resounding success. Healthcare is a bigger risk. We are not just talking about our economics, but we are talking about our very lives. The current Obama healthcare plan will bankrupt our nation, it will push down the quality of healthcare in America, it will reduce our healthcare choices, it will have politicians managing our health instead of our physicians, we cannot afford it, and (Obama doesn’t seem to get it) America doesn’t want it. Of all the changes that we have witnessed since Obama’s administration began their campaign of “change”, this one is the most scary. I don’t want the government running the health of me and my family. I don’t want to pay for another government program that does not work. I do not want to see the healthcare advantages of America go away. I am not willing to pay more taxes so illegal immigrants can receive free medical benefits. And I, like most Americans, do not want this Democratic healthcare program that they are intent on pushing down our throats. Folks, this is just too big a pill to swallow. Contact your Senator and Representative and find out their stand on this Obama healthcare initiative. If they are for it, and you cannot talk them out of it, then recognize this is part of Obama’s future for Americans. If this passes, the best we can do is to vote every one of the people out of office in November that supported such a filthy legislation. Since Congress has forgotten that they are elected to support the voice of the people, we need to make sure they understand that a vote for Obama’s healthcare bill will be a one-way ticket back home. It may be too late for anything but living with the “change”. If nothing else, let those Senators and Representatives know very clearly that, if they vote for Obama’s healthcare bill, you will send them packing in November. Perhaps votes are really all they understand anyway. One other thing we can do? Pray that this measure is defeated. Thanks,
